Government of Mauritius Vision for Water, Life & Environment |
One of the main challenges of Government is to provide services to the needy. Top priority is given to the basic needs of the population. The first National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP1) developed in 1988 laid the foundation stone for the protection of the local environment. |
| The Government of Mauritius subsequently committed itself to sustainable economic development at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 1992. Government priority is to increase efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of environmental degradation, monitor performance of industries and to take strong and pro-active actions on emerging environmental issues facing the nation. |
